Welcome to the 5th Annual Magical AMA! I’m your host for today’s festivities, and
I’ll be the one responding to your inquiries.
So without further ado, let’s get this show on the road! First question please!
What is your name?
My name is impossible to pronounce, let alone type, so you
can call me Penfold.
Are you a wizard?
Yes.
Really?
Yes, really.
What’s up with the rifle in your picture?
Simple. That is my
rifle. I carry it with me on my
journeys.
Wizards don’t use rifles.
Not a question but I’ll respond. I am in point of fact a wizard, and I use my
rifle all the time. It’s my wizard
rifle.
Is your rifle magically enhanced?
Well through the combined marvels of combustion and
engineering it launches a small projectile accurately and at great velocity towards
wherever I aim the rifle. I’d say that’s
pretty magical!
Are all wizards jerks?
Nope. Just me. Next question.
Can I buy your rifle?
Sorry. The rifle is
not for sale.
What make and model is your rifle? I’d like to buy my own.
Buy your own? That
would be impressive since my rifle is one-of-a-kind. I forged and assembled it inside an impromptu
smithy while attending the funeral of the sun.
Ummm…our sun isn’t dead.
Again, not a question.
Also, I never stated that I was referring to our solar system’s
sun. Remember, I’m a wizard. We get around.
What caliber of round does your rifle fire?
Okay look. Does
anyone have a question about anything other than my wizard rifle?
No.
Nope.
Uh, uh.
Negative.
Yes.
Oh thank goodnesss!
What is your question?
Do you cast magic missile on yourself to improve your aim
while using your rifle?
And that brings us to the end of the 5th Annual
Magical AMA! I’d cast a hex on all of
you if I could.
Hello waveriders.
It’s a…well, it’s a day here at The Ripple Effect! I’d like to share with all of you one of my
recent musical discoveries. The band is
named Wizard Rifle and we’re going
to talk a little bit about their recently released self-titled album.
Here’s the setup.
We’ve got two dudes, two microphones, a guitar, a drumset, and a love of
heavy metal. The result? Excellent, riff-obsessed tunes that will take
the listener on five wild journeys of musical exploration and enjoyment! These five songs leap from massive riff to
massive riff with nary a pause thrown in for us to collect our thoughts. Alright there are a few exceptions to that
statement, mainly surrounding vocal passages, but once the vocals cease and the
instruments take over all bets are off. Wizard Rifle demands that you step up
your mental cardio game!
To avoid any confusion I need to make clear that these
tracks are in fact musical journeys. If
you’re looking for rapid-fire, short bursts of audio testosterone that wrap
themselves up in three minutes or less this collection of songs ain’t for you
chief. The shortest run-time belongs to
album opener “Rocket To Hell” which clocks in at 7 minutes and 19 seconds. “Funeral Of The Sun”? Yeah, almost 13 minutes long. If you’re game to strap in and let this band
guide you where their compositions take them however, you’re going to have a
great time!
I’d love to close out by saying if you love band X you’ll
love Wizard Rifle. Unfortunately the portion of my brain
responsible for comparisons has taken the day off. Therefore I’ll rely on the band’s own description
taken directly from their bandcamp page.
And I quote, “Drawing from the sounds of Lightning Bolt, Karp, Sonic
Youth, Black Sabbath and High on Fire, Wizard Rifle cannot sit still sonically
for more than two seconds”. I
concur! Check ‘em out waveriders!
