Joe D. Carpenter - From The Dry Dust & Psychosis

Georgia-based six-stringer Joe D. Carpenter is back with two new singles and both are featured here. Having flirted with many styles and angles it seems Joe is finally finding the path he wants to walk as both 'From The Dry Dust' and 'Psychosis' excellently shows. Lead-heavy metal going full tilt with great harmonies and melodic nuances and this makes for pretty damned good music.

'From The Dry Dust' begins with a spoken sample intro before suddenly erupting as Joe unleashes his fury. It's a controlled fury in the sense that he channels it purposely which in turns makes is more powerful since its directed and reigned in. Unchained it would be all over the board, now instead the song is captivating and on point.

'Psychosis' is an instrumental composition with Joe throwing all caution to the wind. He shreds, riffs and goes all out in this his latest release. One thing is different though and that is Joe gets some help for once. Usually he's a one man army but this time Ted Hennington from Stone Senate and Queen City Gypsies assists on guitar playing a blistering solo towards the end.

Exorcising his demons, whatever they are, Joe has definitely hit his stride as is evident with these two singles. In my humble opinion he has found his way and is walking down a comfortable yet challenging path and, I like that because he doesn't remain stagnant and constantly push boundaries while still sounding like Joe. However, knowing him the next release will be something completely off-the-wall. And that is one of the beauties with Mr. Carpenter. He does throw some weird challenging curve balls when you least expect it. Until then though spin 'From The Dry Dust' and 'Psychosis' and marvel at their greatness.
