It Came From ReverbNation #2

From April 4th to June 4th The Ripple Effect ran a campaign on the excellent online music website ReverbNation (www.reverbnation.com).  This campaign allowed any artist or band registered with ReverbNation to submit their music to The Ripple Effect for possible review on the site and airplay on The Ripple Effect radio shows.  When all was said and done we had received 4,799 submissions!  Incredible!  The purpose of this column is to highlight those artists and bands whose musical submissions I accepted as being worthy of consideration.  While these are not reviews per se, I’m going to provide a brief rundown of what to expect from each artist/band, a sample when available, and a link to check out more on their corresponding ReverbNation page.

The Honey Wilders – What we have here is a seven member outfit from San Jose, CA who is all about revitalizing that classic rock sound.  The song they submitted, called “Life In Stereo”, is one heck of an energetic foot stomper!  I particularly liked the way the backup/harmony vocals are handled.  If you like yourself some classic rock or power pop do yourself a favor and look up this band.

The Rotten Drapes – This Chicago, IL band should be on the radar of any fan of modern alternative music.  Musically speaking the song they submitted, “Here With Me”, reminded me very much of The Killers.  Michael Vallez, the lead singer and main songwriter, has a deep melodious voice well suited to the music.  Also the guest vocals from Theresa Estrada are fantastic!

Keith Patterson Band – I count it as a good sign when a song’s opening moments remind me of Blue Oyster Cult.  That’s just what happened here with the song submission from this six member strong blues rock band out of Myrtle Beach, SC.  “Keep The Blues Alive” indeed!  I was impressed by the strong vocals and solid instrumention, especially the strong guitar playing.  Check them out if you like vintage sounding blues rock.

Parrish-Hundley Band – Alright country fans, this one’s for you!  Two main guys (Parrish and Hundley if you couldn’t guess) front this five piece band from Houston, TX.  Sonically, the band mixes up contemporary country with southern and classic rock, and even a dash of modern alternative music to produce a very ear pleasing concoction.  I really dig the vocals.  Follow the links people.

Vama – Well, well.  It’s not everyday that I come across a band from Bucharest, Romania.  This five man outfit falls squarely into the modern pop/alternative category.  Their music is definitely well produced with a great mix that highlights each individual contributor.  This song reminds me of Keane, the more quiet moments from Muse, and The Killers.  If you dig those acts you should definitely look into this band.

LunariaN – Coming at you from Jakarta, Indonesia by way of London these four young men prove to play some very interesting music.  Their bio states that they identify themselves as an alternative/rock/experimental band and I suppose that makes sense (maybe with an emphasis on the experimental aspect).  The song they submitted jumps at will from one genre to another.  It starts out with a pretty piano intro, jumps to some riffing reminiscent of proggy metal, and then moves on to some very big melodic vocals over a flowing alt rock soundscape.  Interesting to say the least.
