Ripple Library: Author Chat With...Michelle Godard-Richer!

How do you get inspired to write?

I write to escape the real world, and I enjoyed pondering ‘what if’ questions and connecting them together.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

I alternate projects to avoid the wall that drops in the middle of a book. At the 20k word mark of a novel, I’ll let it rest and start another manuscript. Meanwhile, I’ll stew on that first 20k and ponder connections, plot points, and twists.

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

I’ve always wanted to trace my family’s roots to discover who our first relatives were that immigrated to Canada from Ireland.

What are you currently working on?

I’m working on the fourth book in my Vengeful Spirits series as well as a standalone thriller.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

I love nature and wanted to play on the scary sensation that comes when a massive snowstorm is in the forecast.

What kind of research did you do for this novel?

I dove into cultural folklore surrounding spirits and came upon the Japanese onryō.

In general, what emotions do you usually wish to elicit with your writing?

I aim to make readers feel unsettled and curious.

Best advice on writing you've ever received?

To let my brain dictate my own writing process.

What is the weirdest/wildest topic or fact that you’ve had to research or uncovered in your research?

I learned that a severed thumb can’t be used to activate a fingerprint sensor.

Can you tell us a two-sentence horror story?

Lillian stared into her own sightless brown eyes. She collapsed on the bed and sobbed empty tears, waiting for her body to be found.

What else would you want readers to know about you? Where can readers find you online?
