Joe D. Carpenter - Soul Catcher & Trinitas

Here's a twofer from the ever versatile guitarist-extraordinaire Joe D. Carpenter. What's on offer are his two most recent releases: the one-song single 'Soul Catcher' and the three-song EP 'Trinitas'. A truly creative soul in search of his own sphere Joe has ventured down many avenues in search of this which has resulted in a brilliant extensive discography. As of late he has found home moving in within a heavy, crushing yet melodic sphere and that leads us to where we are now. And the now is pretty damned goof, if you ask me.

'Soul Catcher' starts off with a gnarly evil prophetic voice backed by a tribal-like rhythm section. After a little bit that voice is replaced by multi-layered clean vocals as the music hits mid-tempo with a heavy-ass backbone and some pretty on-point guitar work.

'Trinitas' begins with 'Oculis Intentis' which jumps right at you in all it's furiousity. Completely relentless it grinds you down to dust. 'Obsidian' follows and is shockful of razor sharp guitars and crushing, pounding drums. A great rocker, and then some. 'Obscus Architectus' drops slightly in tempo, well everything is relative, but retains those on-point guitars and reels you in.

Even though Joe has "found home" he doesn't rest on his laurels and plays it safe. On the contrary, as these two release show, he tweaks his music enough each time to keep it challenging for himself and his listeners. And to yours truly, that's all you can ask for which these two recordings offers and in turns make them as great as they are.
