Greenseeker ★ The Wish

The most surprising, timeless albums - those that stay in your memory, often appear completely unexpected - that's what I thought when I first had Greenseeker's debut 'The Wish' on my turntable.

Musically rooted deep in 70's psych, the band stands out of the crowd with organ sounds and vocals of Lauren Hatch (keyboards) and Selina Cleary (bass).

Shea Gegan (drums) and Max Siegfried (guitar) complete the quartet and deliver an album steeped in a warm, fluzzy retro sound, perfectly balanced between stoner rock heaviness and mesmerizing psych that at times reminds me of Jess and the Ancient Ones, just without the occult vibes.

The songs thrive on the interaction between guitars and organ and tempt you to turn up the volume more and more. If you give the album its time to unfold and grow, the listener opens up a world of sound that is full of details and facets. Between mysterious pieces garnished with heavy riffing and organs (The Iron Tree, Return to the Mortal Plane) there are great songs that can confidently be described as balladesque (Master of the Storm).

For me this debut is the surprise of the year and I really hope that the album gets the attention it deserves!

Out now on Stonefly Records.
