Self-released
Sarah
Schonert is very creative, writing, recording, and producing original pieces
out of her home studio in Peoria,
IL. Sarah is a
multi-instrumentalist and singer that loves her gear and software. Her style is
rooted in classical piano, supported by electronic vsts, loopers, ambient
washes, carefully crafted arps, and assorted instruments she has collected over
the years.
The
opening track “Astound Me” offers a minimal sound while still being completely
engaging, plus the vocals add warmth that perfectly sets the scene for what’s
to come on the rest of the album. “Tree with Feet” has delicate sound that is
upbeat and charming. “Glacier Dive” has a thrumming melody with an
industrial-lite aspect that made for a thrilling listen. “Penguin Party” has a
quirky intro that will grab your attention with peculiar noises that slowly
come together. Closing off the album, “Get Thee to a Nunnery” is a gentle track
with a swaying beat and soothing vocals that provides the perfect ending to Penguin Party.
With
interesting sounds and clean production, this is an album that you might have
to take around the block a few times, but it will grow on you and make you a
fan. I think I will go and check out some of her older material now…and you
should too!
