The Melvins, who just wrapped up an extensive North American co-headlining tour with Napalm Death, return to the road for a new round of U.S. dates in August, announcing a 7-week trek in support of their forthcoming album, Basses Loaded (June 3, Ipecac Recordings).
The tour, which will feature the current line-up of Dale Crover, Buzz Osborne and Red Kross/OFF! bass player Steve McDonald, includes stops at the Eaux Claires and Muddy Waters Festivals as well as a performance at the inaugural Music Tastes Good Festival in Long Beach, Calif.
Osborne recently spoke with the Wall St. Journal about the band’s tireless work ethic and the concept behind Basses Loaded: (http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2016/05/10/listen-to-the-melvins-cover-the-beatles-i-want-to-tell-you-exclusive/). The paper is also streaming “I Want To Tell You,” the Melvins’ rendition of The Beatles’ classic.
The twelve-song album features six bass players: including Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic, Redd Kross’ Steve McDonald, Butthole Surfers’ J.D. Pinkus, Big Business’ Jared Warren, Mr. Bungle/Fantomas’ Trevor Dunn (aka Melvins Lite) and Melvins’ drummer Dale Crover swapping the drum kit for bass in the Melvins 1983 iteration.
Basses Loaded pre-orders are available now via the Ipecac webstore (http://bit.ly/IpecacStore), Bandcamp (https://melvinsofficial.bandcamp.com), Amazon (http://hyperurl.co/MelvinsAmazon) and iTunes (hyperurl.co/MelvinsITunes). Digital pre-orders include instant downloads of “Hideous Woman” and “War Pussy.”
