King Buffalo, the Rochester three-piece whose brief
discography, a 2013 three-song EP titled Demo and a 2015 split 12” with
Le Betre, self-release their debut album, Orion, on Aug. 5.
The title track from the eight-song release is streaming now via The Obelisk (http://theobelisk.net/obelisk/2016/05/23/king-buffalo-orion-stream-announce/) with pre-orders available via: (http://kingbuffalo.bigcartel.com). In a review of Demo, The Obelisk said “the airy guitars leading the charge of an organic vibe that recalls some of the heavy psych of recent King Buffalo tourmates All Them Witches, a light rural touch and Neil Young influence in the vocals on the open verses leading to a jammy march that’s immediately and viciously engaging, becoming only more so when the quiet break swaggers into a stop and subsequent full-tone fuzz riffing.” Hometown alt-weekly, Rochester City Newspaper, said of the band, “Deliciously fuzzed out and psychedelic in all its mid-tempo grind and glory, King Buffalo takes the sludgy dirge of stoner rock and opens it up to a thunderous and very dynamic trot."
“Orion is the culmination of months of crafting, recording and mixing in our practice / recording space in Rochester, New York,” drummer Scott Donaldson explained. “We’ve developed a sound that feels familiar, but is dynamic and unrelenting. As musicians we’ve learned to embrace the hills and valleys of each piece and try to complement it. To finally have these songs available and cut to wax is very exciting. It's the best stuff we've ever done, and we can’t wait for people to hear it.”
King Buffalo is Scott Donaldson (drums/vocals), Sean McVay (guitar/lead vocals) and Dan Reynolds (bass).
