Today major league web portal Pitchfork is pleased to unveil “Rags,” from Denver gloom troupe and recent Relapse Records signees, PRIMITIVE MAN. Cold, scathing, mercilessly heavy and psychologically traumatizing, the tune comes courtes,y of the band’s full-length debut, Scorn, initially released earlier this year via a collaboration between Throatruiner and Mordgrimm Records.
Fitting crowned a "totally malignant sounding record and one that will consume you whole if you’re not careful,” by Cvlt Nation, PRIMITIVE MAN’s Scorn was recorded by Dave Otero at Flatline Audio (Cephalic Carnage, Catheter, Cobalt, etc.), and delivers a demoralizing brand of blackened doom through seven asphyxiating odes of hatred, disease, despair and hurt feelings.
Add some unadulterated disgust to your Monday with “Rags” now playing at Pitchfork RIGHT HERE.
Relapse Records will reissue Scorn this summer on CD/LP/Digital on August 20, 2013. To preorder, point your browser HERE.
Formed in early 2012, PRIMITIVE MAN features current and former members of Withered, Clinging To The Trees of A Forest Fire, Death of Self and Reproacher. The band is currently preparing to bring their sonic crush to the streets later this week on a mammoth US takeover. Set to commence this Thursday in Pueblo, Colorado, the tour will clobber over three dozen cities, coming to a close August 21st in Salt Lake City, Utah. A complete listing of dates is included below.

“The best worst thing that has ever happened to you.” -- Metal Hammer
“This isn’t an album where douchebags are screaming because they think it’s cool. This is an album where you just know there was despair, anger, violence and hatred in the studio with these guys as they were recording. That’s what makes Scorn so worthwhile of your time and money.” -- Popdose
“PRIMITIVE MAN seek to numb the senses and freeze the heart using lumbering tidal waves of bleak, suffocating sonic nihilism, more likely to reduce those who absorb it into helpless, convulsing fetal positions. -- Blabbermouth
“No album so far this year has been as depressingly crushing as Scorn, and it’ll take something really empty and dank to match what PRIMITIVE MAN has done on this album.” -- Metal Underground
“PRIMITIVE MAN deliver the kind of doom metal reminiscent of a vast, apocalyptic wasteland where the only inhabitants left are too busy committing acts of lethal brutality against one another to care about things as trivial as beauty or art. This band has created the musical equivalent of survival for survival’s sake. There is nothing pretty here.” -- Metal Insider
“…one of the most brutal, unsettling and uncompromising albums you will hear all year.” -- About.com
