I always liked this album...probably Sabotage was my favourite, but just like you I came to Black Sabbath late, even later actually for The Eternal Idol when Tony Martin was at the mic.

Anyway, all the albums I had in my formative years were on cassette tape and now, after checking the Wikipedia entry, I read that the tape release for Technical Ecstasy had a side-reversed order compared to the LP. That is why I nearly spat out my coffee this morning when I was reading your track breakdown which started with "Backstreet Kids".

In my world "Gypsy" was the epic CLOSING track (and somehow "It's Alright" worked as a segue into it as the finale to the album). And "Gypsy" IS epic. So too is Dirty Women but in a different way. To me it was always perfect as the midway high point.

Tracklisting is fundamentally important to me. My favorite album of all time Sad Wings of Destiny has a controversy surrounding the track listing (some retards consider that a track called "Prelude" should come halfway through the album? Please). Now I don't know what to think about Technical Ecstasy because you do seem to be right about the order you're describing, the CD release is apparently that way too.

ARRGGH!!!

I wonder if someone can get a message through to Tony himself to ask what the intent was. In the case of Judas Priest, the band has confirmed that the correct order is Prelude through to Dreamer Deceiver. Of course it is, morons who would close with Island of Domination!

By coincidence I have a vinyl boxset of the first 8 Sabbath albums on order (it is taking forever), so I was about to make this heartbreaking discovery for myself anyway. Thankfully, I can make the choice simply to listen to an LP side B first. My head would explode if I tried it the other way.

Thanks for ruining my day pal and proving the Universe is a cold and cruel place!

Dirty Women last. INDEED!

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15299926759996840851noreply@blogger.com
