SAINT VITUS To Kick Off Thirty-Fifth Anniversary Tour This Week; Band To Perform Born Too Late In Its Entirety

Legendary doom metal dignitaries, SAINT VITUS, will celebrate their thirty-fifth anniversary with a short run of live rituals later this week. Sponsored by Scion AV, the trek inaugurates on May 8th in Albuquerque, New Mexico and will wind its way West and back again, coming to a close on May 25th in Dallas, Texas.

SAINT VITUS will be performing the planet-fracturing Born Too Late album - the first VITUS recording to feature the imperious voice of Scott "Wino" Weinrich - in its entirety alongside other renowned VITUS anthems. Support will come from Portland stoner rock power trio Sons Of Huns.

In celebration of the trek, Scion AV will be giving away two pairs of tickets to every club show via Twitter. See www.scionav.com for details.

Regarded as one of the first bands of the doom genre, starting out as early as the late 1970s along with Pentagram and Trouble, SAINT VITUS was formed in 1979 under the name Tyrant, with Scott Reagers (vocals), Dave Chandler (guitar), Mark Adams (bass), and Armando Acosta (drums). They soon changed their name to SAINT VITUS after the song "St. Vitus' Dance" by Black Sabbath. Their main influences were Sabbath and Black Flag, the latter of which SAINT VITUS toured with during the 1980s. Under this lineup, VITUS recorded two albums (Saint Vitus and Hallow's Victim) and an EP (The Walking Dead). Scott Reagers fled the band following The Walking Dead and was replaced by The Obsessed frontman Scott "Wino" Weinrich.

Wino went on to record three studio albums -- Born Too Late, Mournful Cries and V -- a live album (Live), and an EP (Thirsty And Miserable, featuring the Black Flag cover of the same name) with VITUS. Weinrich left the band in 1991 to reform The Obsessed.

Following Weinrich's departure, the band went on hiatus before recruiting former Count Raven singer, Christian Lindersson, as Weinrich's replacement. Lindersson would record only one album, C.O.D., before being replaced by original VITUS vocalist, Scott Reagers who recorded vocals for the band's final album, Die Healing. SAINT VITUS decided to call it a day in 1996.

On July 1st, 2003, the classic Born Too Late lineup -- Weinrich, Chandler, Adams and Acosta - reunited for one show in Chicago as a warm up to their appearance at the With Full Force Festival in Germany later that week and as of 2008, SAINT VITUS had officially returned. Sadly, Armando Acosta passed away from ongoing health issues shortly thereafter. The band moved forward, adding basher Henry Vasquez to the fold and has remained behind the drum kit ever since.
